Roc of Ages Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Roc of Ages - Essay Example To my surprise, my first period teacher revealed the identity of the mystery man when she announced that she was sure we had all met the doorman, Roc. "Don't try to skirt the dress code" she explained. "And don't be late. Roc likes punctuality". According to the school board classification Roc was the custodian, but as time passed she said we would come to view him as much more than just a simple janitor. She had no reservations in informing us that Roc was not only here to restore order to the mess left behind by students with social skills still stuck in elementary school, but he was also here to teach a class that wasn't offered in any classroom. That subject was humility, humanity, and modesty. I panicked. I wasn't even prepared for biology, much less a class taught by a one armed custodian, not even on my schedule as to where or when it met. As the first year progressed, I did however, have many opportunities to attend Roc's classes. He was assistant coach for the football team, throwing and catching with one arm as great as Johnny Unitas. He held class in the hallway, on the football field, and at the front door. I was surprised to learn he had a degree in animal psychology and was always willing to be a tutor for any needy student.

Multicultural Education Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Multicultural Education - Essay Example The question is not whether or not the educational system will offer a multicultural education; the question is how will the multicultural program be constructed. While culture in a classroom can be a daunting subject that is tempered by legalities, prejudice, and cultural sensitivities it can also be an opportunity for educators to expand the purpose of education. Multicultural education can be implemented in any classroom that cares to reach out and give consideration to the diversity of the student population. Technology can help educators reach across cultural lines and involve all the students in the exploration of the global community. The Internet in the classroom gives the students an opportunity to meet and explore different cultures around the world. In a diverse classroom, students can meet and begin to understand the cultural identity and heritage of the student sitting next to them. Schwartz, Lin, and Holmes state that technology "allows people to meet new cultures in bite-sized pieces that target specific opportunities for reflection" (295). Understanding another culture reduces ethnocentric fear and begins to focus on similarities, rather than differences. Technology is the central hub that educators can use to prompt the discussion of culture in the classroom. While technology can be used to bring culture into the classroom, culture can be used to explore subjects as diverse as science and ec

Summary on ellis island Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Summary on ellis island - Essay Example Many people who live in the United States today can trace at least someone in their lineage back to Elis Island. At this station, immigrants were required to submit to medical examination in which those that did not pass were sent back to their respective countries. Also, while they were there, it was required to give their information in order to be on record with the United States. Sometimes, due to the lack of interpreters and the different languages and dialects being spoken, when signing in the book names would be written on what they sounded like resulting in the change of the last name. Towards the end of Elis Island, the US government started restricting the number of immigrants coming through when both the Immigrant Quota Act of 1921 and the National Origins Act of 1924 was passed. Eventually, the facility was closed down. In 1976, Elis Island was turned into a tourist facility in which people interested in their familyââ¬â¢s genealogy could trace their ancestry back to. It serves as a testimony to all those immigrants who braved the challenges to make it over here and how America was their opportunity for a new life. Bibliography Moreno, Barry. Ellis Island. Answer the 4 Questions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Answer the 4 Questions - Essay Example The best part about the company was also that it had good electrical engineers that paid attention to providing the customers with good quality finished products. However, most of the machines were a little non-user friendly which led to a lot of complaints faced by the dealers. These factors thus represent vital strategic resources for the company in their own ways as mentioned. Answer 2: In the projector market, Sony had secured for itself a firm foothold as well. Sony was the main player in the projector market and had an estimation of about 50% of its units being sold. The main reason by which it was able to generate high levels of revenue was because it had a worldwide network of captive commercial video distributors who in turn worked with about 1,500 dealers worldwide. It had built a reputation for itself in terms of high reliability and cheaper prices with the dealers and that is why the more preferred brand in terms of projector purchases. However, when one looked at its ele ctrical engineers, the ones from Barco were better equipped to handle machines and produced better projectors. Thus the only strategic resource that Sony has in the projector market reverts back to its strong distribution system or line of promotion and physical networking. Answer 3: Barco made a decision of entering a new activity only if it had in depth research of the technology that was required and only if it could hold an estimation of being one of the top three manufacturers of the product in the world. It also put in about 8% - 10% of its annual turnover into research and development for the same. This led to the company facing a vast number of hindrances because due to this, the company only relied on the knowledge that it had gained, and Sony took over the market slowly with the introduction of new and improved technology at lower prices. Had the company changed its vision about not delving into unknown surroundings, it could have done better and provided fierce competitio n for its competitors as well. Answer 4: Sonyââ¬â¢s strategic plan was to launch the Superdata projector at the Siggraph show in Boston. This product seized the first place as the industryââ¬â¢s highest performing projector from BPSââ¬â¢ BG400. Sony also planned to price it at a level that was about 20% ââ¬â 40% below the actual market price that had been established in the projector sector. Thus this lethal combination of having such a low price for a high end and high performance yielding product proved great competition for Barco and threatened not only to lead to a collapse of its traditional market segmentation but also drop the prices of its products to a very low amount. This led to a downturn in the companyââ¬â¢s working and functioning. Works Cited 1. Moriarty, Rowland T. ââ¬Å"Barco Projection Systems (A): Worldwide Niche Marketingââ¬
